Workshop Overview

Elevate your preschoolers' learning with TOYMAKER's dynamic woodworking workshop. We bring the entire setup to you, ensuring a seamless and engaging session. Children will hone essential woodworking skills while crafting delightful wooden buses. This hands-on project incorporates untreated pine wood, featuring activities such as measuring, wood clamping, sawing with pull-saws, drilling, and hardware implementation. Emphasizing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, this experience fosters a sense of control and confidence in young bodies. Secure your spot for next term early, and let the woodworking adventures begin! Aligned with all learning strands of Te Whāriki, this workshop aids children in conceptualizing ideas; crafting a functional toy from a block of wood fosters creative thinking. Moreover, children develop working theories to comprehend the natural, social, physical, and material realms. This hands-on experience also nurtures basic understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts, as measuring reinforces numeracy skills and deepens knowledge of size, shape, length, width, and height. It also introduces children to the amount of force needed for drilling and the technique of push-pull for sawing. We recommend scheduling this workshop between 9 am and noon, as this is when children are most alert and receptive to learning. Up to four children can participate actively in the workshop at any given time, allowing others the chance to observe and learn while they await their turn. The workshop requires a sheltered outdoor or indoor area with a flat surface, ideally around 3x3 meters in size.
