TOYMAKER Workshops offer children a wonderful introduction to woodworking and the art of using hand tools. Simply arrive with empty hands and leave with not only a finished wooden toy, but also a handful of new skills and a sense of achievement!

Celebrate 2026 Wellington on a Plate with Toymaker at Kai Tahi in Porirua! Over the weekends of 15 & 16 August and 22 & 23 August, we will run four Burger Wellington-themed workshops for children. Kids will craft their own Wooden Stacking Burger Toy to take home while learning new skills and having lots of fun. It’s a great experience for parents too - leave your child with us for the workshop while you relax and enjoy some kid-free time at the Kai Tahi eatery. Please note that the workshop age limit is strictly 6+; younger children cannot participate. Our August 2026 workshops will run on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Kai Tahi in Porirua. Please check the calendar section below for available dates and times.
Kai Tahi is a vibrant waterfront hub transformed from a former factory to reconnect the city with the harbour. There is plenty to explore and enjoy, including food, shops, art, and community spaces, so allow plenty of time before and after the workshop to make the most of your visit.

Workshop rules
In our workshops, children are expected to stay focused, follow instructions and complete the project independently. We use real tools that require independence, full mobility and responsible behaviour. Health and safety are our top priorities, and we cannot compromise on them. An accompanying parent is welcome to stay but is not permitted to participate in the workshop activities. If unsure, just ask about your child's suitability.
Choose the right class
This1.5-hour projects provides a comfortable introduction to woodwork for beginners and children aged 6+. Please note that younger children cannot participate if they do not meet the age limit - just as a preschooler cannot attend college.
