Workshop Overview

Ignite creativity and skill-building in your tamariki with TOYMAKER's intermediate-level woodworking workshop. Designed for children aged 3-5 with prior woodworking exposure (beginners, explore our entry-level projects!), this half-day session is a whirlwind of hands-on activity. From measuring to surface finishing, children will craft wooden stomp catapults for your kindergarten. Book now to secure a day of learning and fun at your kindergarten for the next term! In alignment with all learning strands of Te Whāriki, this workshop aids children in developing confidence and control over their bodies. Through activities like measuring, drawing, clamping, cross-cutting, drilling, hammering, surface finishing, and gluing, children enhance their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. This serves as a solid foundation for other endeavors like writing. Mastering these new skills fosters a sense of accomplishment and sets the stage for future success. Children will utilize untreated pine wood, carpenter's pencils, squares, clamps, pull saws, saw guides, sanding blocks, various grits of sanding paper, and wood glue. While a maximum of four children can actively engage at a time, others will have the opportunity to observe and learn, awaiting their turn. We recommend scheduling this workshop between 9 am and noon, as this is when children are most alert and receptive to learning. We supply all the necessary items for a successful woodworking session, including a workbench, tools, materials, and safety gear. The workshop requires a sheltered outdoor or indoor area with a flat surface, ideally around 3x3 meters in size.
